William L. Shirer was an American journalist and historian who reported from Berlin for CBS during the rise of Nazi Germany. His monumental work The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, published in 1960 and based on captured documents and personal experience, won the National Book Award and remains one of the most widely read histories of the Nazi era.
